Hi I'm Joy - Owner and the Creative Force at The Stationery Bar! Welcome and I hope we become fast friends because I love all things sparkly and girly (just wait until you step into my showroom) but also romantic and timeless. I truly believe in the whole experience from the moment we meet to the moment you pick up your invitations - it's something that I wanted when I was planning my wedding and so I strive to give that to each bride that walks through my doors. Although I am city born and bred - I have been in love with Long Island since I moved here 12 years ago when I got married. I opened my showroom in 2018 although I have been designing invitations for the last 10 years. My husband is the owner of the Six Juice - a natural fresh fruit and vegetable juice company with a juice bar in Sayville, so my home is crazy town at all times with 2 businesses growing at the same time! But I wouldn't change it for the world. The Stationery Bar is your premier choice for high end wedding invitations on Long Island. Work with me directly to create a custom package perfectly reflective of your love story. I hope to see you soon!
Introduction
The Wedding Industry
I graduated from City College with a degree in graphic design and advertising. I grew up in downtown Manhattan and stayed home for school - this was great for me because I was engulfed in art and began working as a graphic designer while still in school. I used to design Disney furniture for kids - think Disney princesses! I fell in love with the wedding industry while designing my own invitations - it was then that I knew this was for me. While working for others I never felt truly fulfilled, it wasn't until I ventured off on my own that I fell in love with what I do. I love the love story and being a part of that is amazing, being able to help a couple tell their perfect love story is why I do what I do.
The Wedding Memories
Actually, my favorite wedding memory is my very own. My husband and I got married right in our town of Bay Shore. It was the perfect October evening for a wedding on the water. It was the best day of my life, we just had fun! Fun with each other and with our best friends and family.
Specialization
I specialize in custom wedding invitations - therefore I do not use books because I believe wedding invitations should 100% be what you want and should represent your style and taste. I use the best and most luxurious materials from double thick cotton card stock to handmade paper, acrylic, velvet, silk and even leather. I also provide all kinds of printing from digital to letterpress, foil stamping, embossing and engraving. All of your wedding stationery should look like they are from the same family - from your save the dates to your day of stationery, seating charts and signage. The only way to ensure the best of the best is to customize every detail.
Company History
I opened my showroom in 2018 although I have been designing invitations for the last 10 years. Throughout the years I failed to find an anyone who could offer the level of customization that I wanted which is the primary reason I designed my own invitations 12 years ago. Everything I saw at the time looked exactly the same - nothing special, nothing that felt like me, no glam showroom where I could go and look, feel and touch. Everything looked and felt basic and cookie cutter. If I was looking for that kind of specialty, then I knew other brides were looking too. I wanted to be the business I was looking for and offer the level of service and design that I expect.
FAQs
Q: When should we mail our wedding invitations? A: 8 weeks prior to your wedding is ideal. Q: How do we make sure guests know who and who is not invited in a household? A: Everyone invited to your wedding should be listed on the wedding invitation envelope, including children. Q: Can I just order the exact number of invitations that I need? A: I always recommend 10-15 extra invitations (the post office loses mail all the time!) In all the crazy planning you may accidentally leave a family member off of the list. I guarantee your mom and mother-in-law will want 3 invitations each as keepsakes! LOL Ordering a small number of invitations after your set is already printed and assembled is crazy expensive - always try to avoid this! Q: Ummm I don't know what I want, can you helpppp? A: Of course, I can - I will ask a bunch of questions to get an idea of your style and wedding vibe. I may ask to see pics of your dress and flowers also - then leave the rest to me!
Personal Hobbies
I'm a dog mom! I have a Pit Bull and a Cane Corso Lab mix - they couldn't be more different from each other (one is always in doggie HYPERDRIVE and the other is a STAGE FOUR clinger) but are oh so very much best friends. I love spending time with them and the hubs (our perfect little family). Orange Theory is my jam! If you're a Bay Shore local and an Orange Theory member we probably have taken class together - catch me on that tread!
